And The Beat Goes On

This past week my fifth child, a son, graduated from high school.  The next day, my nephew got married.  He is the first one in the “children” generation to do so.  He will be followed down the aisle in September, as my oldest son and his fiancee become husband and wife.  At each event this weekend, I watched families like mine come together to celebrate the milestones of their lives.

Families aren’t perfect. But no other social institution has proven itself to be as strong, as beneficial, as resilient, or as effective as that traditional family.  The family existed before any government.  It has outlasted every government – the Roman Empire fell, but the families inside that fallen empire survived.

Today, government has declared war on the family.   The attacks come through taxing policies, educational policiessocial policies, even through attempts to redefine what family is.  It’s easy to become discouraged.  And then a family event occurs, and the institution that provides the very fabric of our society proves that it is still alive and vibrant.

And definitely worth fighting for.

God bless.
