My children all came in this past weekend. We had a family day on Saturday. We went to lunch and then to a baseball game together. It poured during the games, so we all got soaked, waited for over an hour for the storm to end, and then watched the Pirates beat the Rockies. It was chilly and windy and wet. We had a blast.
My kids, including the ones that now are chronologically adults, spent half of their time remembering stories from their childhood days, and the other half making new memories. As is usually the case when the family gets together, we laughed a lot.
And as I looked around the stadium, I saw other families just like mine. Some had tiny ones, some were just couples – either in their 20’s or 60’s, and some had multiple generations.
It reminded me that the American family is, despite the reports of its imminent demise, alive and well. Sometimes we can forget that while governments, and empires, have come and gone througout the centuries, the family has remained.
That’s because while man made the government, God made the family. Sometimes it’s good to remember that.
Take care.

P.S. In our noon prayer time, let’s remember Juanita and John. Juanita is on bed rest to try to keep from miscarrying. They have lost babies to miscarriage before, so this will be their first birth. Let’s help them with our prayers today.
